Tyler Storie: Alpine’s Greatest Asset

Categories:

Our Alpine Avenue Dunkin’ in Comstock Park, MI, is led by one of the very best. Restaurant General Manager (RGM) Tyler Storie brings a wealth of caffeine-driven knowledge to Shamrock Company, thanks to over five years of experience in the coffee industry! We sat down with Tyler to learn a bit more about his professional path, team spirit and passion for people.

CHANGES BREWING

When COVID hit in 2020, Tyler already had a few years of coffee expertise under his belt. But with social distancing in place, he decided it was time to pivot to a less customer-facing role. During lockdown, he accepted a factory position in a different field, and while he said he made friends at the warehouse, he quickly realized that he missed meeting new people every day — a huge benefit of a career in serving coffee.

For me, it’s all about the people.

Pretty soon, Tyler began his job search again, this time hoping that he’d be able to reenter the coffee world. After an impactful visit to Dunkin’ as a customer, Tyler knew that he wanted to work there. The brand’s modern tech systems, organized management and overall cleanliness really impressed him — so when a position opened up nearby, Tyler jumped at the opportunity. He got the job, and was even able to start in leadership as an Assistant General Manager (AGM), all thanks to his previous experience.

Tyler trained with Jasmine Garcia at the Byron Center, MI Dunkin’, and upon finishing, he began leading the Alpine Avenue location as RGM!

LEADING BY EXAMPLE

If there’s one thing about Tyler’s leadership that stands out, it’s how much he prioritizes his people. This value in particular has brought Tyler a lot of professional success, and his mindset mirrors our own. The RGM comes by management naturally, but he also credits Jasmine and Ali Youtz with setting a great example. “People are a big focus in this company. You feel it,” he says.

Jasmine and Ali’s influence trickled down to Tyler, and Tyler’s positive attitude has been passed along to his own team. Working alongside his reports to create a culture of understanding is of the utmost importance, Tyler shares. “I try to be a part of the team, not just a manager,” he says.

Being warm and present really helps [my team] feel comfortable and give them the space to grow.

MORE THAN JUST A JOB

Connecting with guests is one of Tyler’s favorite things about being an RGM — he could recite the orders of Alpine Avenue’s regulars off the top of his head. Getting to know guests better has meant more than just day-to-day friendship, too — Tyler shares that one of them even helped him find new tires for his car!

And as for Tyler’s future? He’s not quite sure yet, but thinks he’d like to eventually work toward a position at the director level. For right now, he’s just enjoying the ride. “I’m excited to help the market grow,” he says.
Thank you for all your hard work, Tyler — we couldn’t be more grateful to have you on our team! Want to work in an environment like Alpine Avenue’s? Apply to Shamrock today!
