At Shamrock Company, we believe in fostering a supportive and engaging work environment. We recently sat down with Corey Hinton, the Restaurant General Manager at our Comstock Park Dunkin’ location in Grand Rapids, MI, to learn about his journey, vision, and commitment to creating a positive workplace culture.
A New Beginning
Corey joined the Comstock Park Dunkin’ team in August of this year. “I was in a job I didn’t like anymore, and when I saw the opportunity at Dunkin’, I decided to apply,” he shares.
He was quickly impressed by the warmth and professionalism of the team. “I really liked Michael, who interviewed me,” Corey recalls. “He’s the District Manager, and despite being really busy that day, he took the time to get to know me and share his story. It felt like a good place to work.”
With seven years of management experience in the quick service industry on his resume—Corey brought a wealth of knowledge to his new role.
Aligning Values and Vision
What drew him to us was the alignment of values. “Michael and I had similar experiences with lack of support in upper management at previous jobs,” Corey explains. “He told me this company is very family-first, business-second, and I really liked that.”
Corey appreciates the supportive culture at Shamrock, something he experienced firsthand while training with the Byron Center Dunkin’ team. “I trained for six weeks, and the culture there is amazing,” he shares. “Everyone’s warm and inviting; they just like to have fun and make coffee. It’s the same type of culture I want to match here because it was just an awesome experience.”
He also values the accessibility of upper management. “It’s really important. It’s good to have upper management showing that we’re here for you too.”
Cultivating a Positive Work Environment
I want my employees to come to work and want to be here.”
Corey Hinton, Restaurant General Manager
Corey is passionate about creating a workplace where team members are excited to come to work. “The big thing here is definitely training the staff we have and getting new faces in,” he says. “I want to change that mentality where everyone dreads coming to work”
He believes in leading by example. “I’m here, hands-on anytime I can, supporting the team if they need help,” Corey notes. “I’m always here for phone calls, texts—whatever. I’m going to support them any way I can.”
Looking Ahead
Corey has clear goals for his future with the company. “I hope to work my way up to District Manager. That’s my ultimate goal.” And he knows he’ll have our full support on the way!
