When we acquired our Byron Center, MI Dunkin’ location last year, we got an added bonus: the expertise of Karla Acalco! The Shift Lead — who also happens to be cold foam’s biggest fan — has been with Dunkin’ for over two years, and her rapid professional growth is a testament to just how fast Shamrock team members can climb the career ladder.
JACK OF ALL TRADES
One of the things that sets Karla apart is her willingness to try new things. She’s held a variety of roles at Dunkin’, but her very first position was as a Baker. Her delicious donuts soon caught the eye — and tastebuds — of Jasmine Garcia, Byron Center’s Restaurant General Manager (RGM). Jasmine felt strongly that Karla’s skills could lend themselves well to being a Barista — and she was right. Karla was great at creating delicious Dunkin’ drinks, too, and quickly learned all of the brand’s complicated recipes.
There’s never a dull moment at work, according to Karla!
Soon, Karla was pondering her next career move. As her 18th birthday approached, she began wondering if becoming a Shift Lead could be a possibility, and asked Jasmine what she thought of the idea.
“Whatever you set your mind to, you’ll accomplish,” was Jasmine’s reply.
A LEADER TO LOOK UP TO
With the help of Jasmine, Karla became a Shift Lead (a title she still holds). Although she’s been promoted, Karla still receives an abundance of support and encouragement from Jasmine, which means a lot considering Jasmine was her career inspiration. Jasmine, too, started as a baker, was promoted to Barista, then to Shift Lead, and finally, now, RGM.
Karla also appreciates that Jasmine really goes the extra mile as a manager. She takes the time to learn more about her team’s schedules and preferences to ensure they’re able to put their best food forward at work. Karla, for example, tells us that she’s really not a morning person, so Jasmine always makes sure to put Karla on closing shifts instead.
JUST THE BEGINNING
When it comes to Karla’s future, she doesn’t see herself working anywhere else. She loves her work environment, co-workers and the variety of tasks she gets to complete day to day.
We’re certainly happy to hear that, Karla. Thanks for all of your hard work!
