From the moment he starts interviewing, Luis Chora sprinkles in bits of humor. He says he often tries to “lighten things up” at work, which comes as no surprise to us. Luis believes work can and should be both fun and serious (when necessary). We agree!
Luis is one of our stellar Restaurant General Managers (RGMs), leading by example and doing his part every day to make a difference in the lives of those he manages.
He leads our Kirk/Mesa Taco Bell in Aurora, IL, a role he’s held since September 2022. He says once he became an Assistant Manager, it took less than a year before he was tapped to climb even higher. You see at Shamrock Company, we believe in our people and have carved out a career path that promotes opportunity!
Luis is grateful to Shamrock for the professional opportunities he’s been given. And the benefits! He mentions the 401(k) plan and is also quick to point out what a big impact bonuses have had on his life.
“When that bonus check comes out of nowhere,” Luis shares, “[It] cleans my debts away.”
“Shamrock’s always been there for me,” Luis continues. “They’ve been helping me blossom to where I am at today.”
CHERISH THE CHALUPA
Luis got his start with Taco Bell at age 16 when he accepted his first job as a team member. From there he became Service Champion and eventually made his way up to Shift Lead.
When asked why he joined Taco Bell, Luis quips, “Hmmmmm, I guess it was that first bite of the chalupa.”
He left Shamrock at one point, briefly. Of the experience of leaving and coming back, Luis shares that he’s always been treated kindly. Shamrock leadership is respectful and responsive, he says, and show genuine care for employees. Company leaders recognize hard work, too — Luis was given tickets to a recent Chicago Bulls game thanks to our President and VP of Operations!
Today, Luis passes on the same reciprocal energy to his own direct reports. He says it makes him feel good to know he can change someone’s day.
“It’s just touching to know that I have that power to help people,” he shares of his role in coaching future RGMs.
“When I see potential in someone, I give them a little shove and they take off from there,” he says.
