In Glendale Heights, IL a 21 year-old Taco Bell Restaurant General Manager (RGM) is beginning what’s sure to be a very bright career: though Julissa Bermejo has only been with Shamrock Company for 4 years, she’s already leading an entire team at our North Avenue restaurant!
While enjoying our recent summer picnic at Michigan Adventures, we had the opportunity to ask Julissa just how she got to where she is today.
REAL-DEAL RECOGNITION
Julissa applied for a Food & Service Champion role, and says that from her very first interview, Shamrock leadership recognized her potential. When she received the news that she got the job, they asked if she’d like to start as a Shift Lead instead — which is one rung higher on the career ladder. Julissa happily agreed, and got to work proving to leadership that they had made a great choice.
After just two months as a Shift Lead, Julissa’s Restaurant General Manager (RGM) and Area Coach applauded her fantastic performance, emphasizing her strength in customer service specifically. This led to a promotion, and Julissa officially became an Assistant General Manager (AGM) — a position she held for a year and a half.
Roughly six months ago, her Area Coach pulled her aside again. He shared that Julissa’s natural talent for leadership had earned her another promotion — but this time, to an RGM role!
“It’s impressive for my age to be an RGM, and I’m proud of myself for that!”

HARD WORK, BUT WORTH IT
Of course, Julissa’s swift career progression didn’t happen without a lot of dedication. When asked what keeps her going, the RGM shares that the support she receives from leadership makes all the difference. She and her manager have a genuine relationship, meeting weekly for check-ins and keeping in close contact almost daily about her progress and performance.
Management also shared with Julissa that they envision her becoming an Area Coach someday, which she says is another huge reason she continues to stay motivated.
“I like that they’re really proud of me — that’s what keeps me going and wanting to move up,” she shares.
ALWAYS LEARNING
When asked about the advice she’d give to aspiring RGMs, Julissa says that focusing on learning the ins and outs of company processes has been essential to her success. Given the chance, she would also assure new leaders that mistakes are inevitable.
“There’s so many different situations — the power goes out, a customer doesn’t get great service — that I have to figure out by myself,” she shares. Leaning into these challenges and viewing them as learning experiences is what has helped make Julissa the accomplished leader she is today.
PERKS APLENTY
Julissa says the people are the #1 reason she stays at Shamrock, but that the fantastic benefits are a close second. Her bonuses allow her to save, and PTO lets her spend more time with her family — as well as her boyfriend and beloved dog.
